Diva Spotlight: Maria
Posted by: Christi Lott 07/03/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Why she's GOOD:
Maria started out with one of the best characters, a very ditzy version of herself. She played a dummy to a T. Even in playing someone unintelligent, Maria showed how much intelligence she does have, from the mannerisms, facial expressions, and that amusing moment in which she intelligently answered a question in a mock trial. Maria has also proven herself in being able to persevere and improve her skills. Credit is due for Maria, she has done her best to prove she has what it takes to be considered a top Diva.

Why she's BAD:
After ditching the dumb gimmick, Maria tried to prove herself as a capable wrestler who could handle being in the ring with some real deal Divas. Sadly for her, that hasn't panned out. Despite her best work and attempts in improving in the ring, Maria still looks the bit of a stumbling fool in the ring. There have been a few moments of good skills and little botching, but it's mostly due to the opponent she has carrying the match or she's in a tag team match getting little ring time. I've written an article previously on her and how some people are meant to be in the ring and some aren't. Maria at this moment is in the latter category.

What she brings to the WWE:
Maria is a popular Diva, and that's always a good thing. No one can deny that this woman tries her best to entertain the fans. Maria does have time on her side however, in being able to truly prove to all fans, including skeptical ones like myself, that she does belong on the Divas roster.

Torrie Wilson feels hurt by WWE
Posted by: Andrew 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Ewrestlingnews.com is reporting that Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson was interviewed by Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun to discuss her second place finish in NBC's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here and she had some interesting things to say regarding World Wrestling Entertainment. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Whether having a snake on her face was worse than kissing Vince McMahon: "Oh, making out with Vince, for sure [laughs]. I’ll take the snake any day."

Embarrassed over taking part in the Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal: "I’m very mad at myself and embarrassed that I agreed to be a part of something like that. A lot of people in the audience didn't even know that I was in that match because they didn't even announce it. For me, that whole experience at WrestleMania was kind of like closure. I feel like maybe I'm not appreciated like I would have hoped. They just wanted all these girls there. Now I can understand why Trish [Stratus] decided not to do it; she was smart. Going into it I trusted them that they would use me in the right way and I should have known better. All in all, I learned a valuable lesson."

Whether she thinks she's done with professional wrestling: "I do. I just didn't appreciate that experience and I felt very unappreciated after all of the years that I put in for them. You combine that with the fact that I asked them to do a little thing on wwe.com to "vote for Torrie" and they just ignored me. So, my feelings are hurt."

Francine blogs about Legends of the Arena show
Posted by: Andrew 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Ewrestlingnews.com is reporting that Former ECW Diva Francine sent out the following announcement today, stating that the Legends of the arena event was such a success that they will be to donate $6400 to cancer research:

First of all, I want to thank all of the fans who showed up this past Saturday night for The Legends of the Arena show. I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to meet all of you and to once again appear in front of the crowd who in my opinion, was always the greatest to work in front of. You guys and girls were hot from start to finish and the feedback has been awesome! I am so glad you all enjoyed yourselves! I really enjoyed meeting all of you. God Bless those who shared their cancer stories with me. It is a horrible disease and I pray every day that they find some kind of a cure. You are all in my prayers. I have to thank all the boys for participating. You were all amazing and without your help, there wouldn't of been a show. I love you guys! Thanks for making this a success! Now, for those who are curious, this show cost way more then I ever expected. This was the first time I have ever done something like this, so I had no idea just how much things were going to cost. The main reason was to raise money for cancer research. Some of the boys did come in for free, but asked for trans. A lot of them either wanted their full pay or came in for a bit less. Some did it for half their price. I tried to give everyone something at the end of the night because I felt it was the right thing to do. I bought 14 plane tickets and paid for 13 hotel rooms for Friday and Saturday night. I had to pay for the building, catering, production, photos, security and hired help. We had 40 wrestlers there and the boys were allowed to bring their families and friends. That total came to 250 comps, which was no problem. I just wanted to have a great show and I wanted everyone to be happy. After all of the expenses, I am able to donate $6400 to cancer research. As I said in the ring the night of the show "If this money helps one person, then everything I've done for the last 5 months will be worth it". So once again, thank you all for being a part of it and making it a success. Much love always. - Francine

Tara's Latest Online Blog
Posted by: Mike 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

TNA's Tara has returned to her online blogging ways with an update on her current status with TNA Wrestling, MMA training, and much more. Here's what the spider lady had to say: -

Let me start off by saying that I learned a valuable lesson. I responded to a rumor, and what I learned was, the people whose opinion I truly value, my family, my friends, the folks who follow my wrestling career, and my MySpace friends, they know me well enough to know who I am. So I didn't need to respond. But I sure do appreciate all your support.

On to a happier subject. Tonight on TNA Impact on SpikeTV, I will be tagging up with the Amazing Kong. I am so excited for us as a tag team. Me vs Kong is one of those dream matches. I think she could bring out the best fighter from the New and Improved Tara. And as big and mean as she looks on TV, she looks even bigger and meaner in person. It is an honor to work along side of her, and we will give the "Beautiful People" the treatment that they deserve. And yes, I do have an extra special trick up my sleeve.

I'm going to make this short. I am between MMA training sessions. I will talk more about it once I decide either way, but a fight promoter came to my coach with an amazing fight opportunity. It is against a name those who follow women's MMA would know. It is a great opportunity, and would be two months away, and frankly, we are discussing whether I can be ready for a fighter at that level this soon. I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Later Fried Green Tomaters, Lisa Marie aka TNA Tara : )

Torrie Wilson's Latest Blog
Posted by: Mike 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson has posted a new online blog. In the latest blog, Torrie discusses her time on "I'm a Celebrity" among other things: -

Well I am finally back home from the Costa Rican jungle where I was filming the show "I'm a celebrity, get me outta here!" 30 days of living in the jungle and eating mostly rice and beans sure made me appreciate my home sweet home! I had a great time and made tons of good friends..and was really happy that I got to show people who I really am! I definitely underestimated how hard it was really going to be, by day 3 I found myself looking around camp going "wow, this is gonna be much harder than I thought!" I used my inner strength to get me through and realized I am much more fierce than I ever thought. Quitting was NEVER an option. I want to live by the 2 little words "NO REGRETS" everyday of my life. I hope that I can be a positive influence in many people's lives by demonstrating that you can do anything if you put your heart and soul into it and don't give up! I had a few day's when I was miserable and homesick but without those bad days I would not have walked away from this experience a changed person and appreciated it so much. Nothing is ever easy in life and how boring would it be if it always was?

I came in 2nd place behind Lou Diamond Philips and it was ridiculously close. Only less than 1/10th of 1% of the votes separated us and I later heard they had to do a recount because I was in the lead the previous day. Lou definitely deserves the crown, he's a great guy and a hard worker...I am elated to have made it to the very last day and owe all of you that voted a big huge THANKYOU!!!! I have the best fans and friends in the world!!

I am very excited about the opportunites coming my way and will of course keep you all posted......working on the first in a series of workout videos already and am so excited because this is something I have ALWAYS wanted to do! I love working out and have so many great tips and tricks to share!

Thankyou God for my friends new and old..and for giving me such a beautiful life changing experience.

mucho kisses!
Tor

Diva Spotlight: The Bella Twins
Posted by: Christi Lott 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Why they're Good:
Twins can be a solid gimmick. The Bella Twins had a good debut in one sneaking under the ring when in trouble and the fresher sister picking up the win. The two are actually solid wrestlers, with a solid moveset of some lucha inspired moves and have managed to be better than a few of their fellow Divas who've been around longer.

Why they're BAD:
The gimmick didn't get them over. Thanks to the internet, their secret was out VERY quickly and fans were counting down as to when the secret would FINALY be let out. So it was, and what happened then? Nothing. Bland does not begin to describe The Bellas. Other than being twins, there's nothing exciting about them. Sure, they're good wrestlers, but the two of them do the exact same moves one after the other.

Watching the same move done by two people in succession gets old very fast, and The Bellas have done nothing to make themselves stand out, either as individuals or as twins. Plus, what is there for twin Divas? The women's division does not have a tag team title, and I can't remember a time when they've had a solo match without using one another to win.

What they bring to the WWE:
The Bellas bring a gimmick that hasn't happened before. As critical as I am on them, I will say that at least they aren't painful to watch. As a set they an be interesting, but hopefully in the near future the two can become individuals in the meantime.

WWE officially signs Serena Deeb
Posted by: Andrew 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Dave Prazak announced this just a few minutes ago: Everyone at SHIMMER - WOMEN ATHLETES would like to congratulate Serena Deeb on officially signing a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.

From the first day she stepped into a wrestling ring, it has always been Serena's goal to earn a job with WWE. Serena moved from Virginia to Kentucky on her own dime for the sole purpose of enrolling in the Ohio Valley Wrestling training program several years ago, and she has been a mainstay in the OVW women's division ever since.

Serena debuted for SHIMMER on May 21, 2006 as a last minute substitution when an opening on the lineup created an opportunity. During the three years that followed, Serena displayed tremendous drive, determination, and eagerness to constantly learn. She has always tried to improve her game, be it in SHIMMER competition, at OVW, or in her handful of appearances for Ring of Honor.

Despite OVW losing its status a WWE developmental territory last year, Serena remained focused on achieving her goal of impressing WWE officials enough to be given a chance. All of Serena's hard work has now paid off, as she will soon be relocating to Florida to start with WWE developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling.

Personally speaking, I feel that Serena Deeb is one of the top three female babyface talents in North America today. She's got unbelievable fire, and can project emotion better than most wrestlers of a similar age and experience level. These are essential attributes to go along with the sound athletic wrestling fundamentals which she also possesses. She's a complete package, and is perfect for television.

Serena's training at OVW not only prepared her quite well for professional wrestling in general, but also specifically for the style of wrestling which WWE is looking for. Serena's continued instruction at FCW will only sharpen her existing skills, in preparation for the next stage of her career.

The three match series between Serena and Sara Del Rey were truly breakout performances for her as a wrestler. I feel those matches excellently displayed Serena's unbelievable potential to become a star in this industry. In her outings several weeks ago at the SHIMMER Vols. 23-26 tapings in Chicago, Serena continued to show that she absolutely deserved the spot at the top of the card that she had worked her way into.

I'd like to thank Serena Deeb for all of her contributions to SHIMMER during the past three years. From all of the memorable matches, to sacrificing her car on the drive up for the SHIMMER Title Tournament weekend, Serena gave so much to our product. Though we'll greatly miss her at future tapings, Serena has now been given the chance of a lifetime-- to work her way to the top of her chosen profession.

Good luck, Serena... and congrats!

Dave Prazak

*Serena joins Angela Fong, Beverly Mullins, Gloria Marie (Miss April), Jenny Cash, Penelope Carwin (Jemma Palmer), Rachael Lynn (Rachael Carr) as the New Divas from development.

Quote of the Day: Daffney's Got It...
Posted by: Mike 07/02/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Former TNA Heavyweight Champion Mick Foley has taken to the world wide web to blog about none other than Daffney. Here's what he had to say about the crazy Knockout: -

Daffney's got it going on. That's what I think whenever I see her on TV, doing promos, in the ring, etc. Which is my way of saying that she's really hit her stride; everything seems to be coming together simultaneously. I've always thought that anything that's different is good, and man is this chick different. I try to give feedback when I see something I like, and it seems that I'm always saying something to her about what I see. "I love the outfit, Daffney, it's creepy, it's you." Or, "great promo, I like how calm you are." She slithers like a snake, she's got a cool walk, all her stuff in the ring looks good, and like all good characters, she makes you wonder where the character ends/where the person begins. I've been around her for a while now, and I don't really have a clue. Plus, she's read one of my novels like 4 times, and that's a little scary.

Canada Day: Trish Stratus
Posted by: Mike 07/01/2009 JOIN THE FORUMS

Join us now as we conclude Canada Day celebrations with their #1 export - the gorgeous Trish Stratus. The Toronto native burst onto our screens back in March 2000 and was soon thrown in a sexually fueled rivalry with Bubba Ray Dudley. The Canadian beauty would eventually embark on a feud with Lita - spanning several years. Trish also enjoyed a storyline affair with Vince McMahon, which led to a heated war with Stephanie McMahon (the pair wrestled one another at No Way Out 2001).

As she spent more time in the ring, her wrestling skills and popularity strengthened. Because of this, she was a one-time WWE Hardcore Champion, three-time "WWE Babe of the Year" and was proclaimed "Diva of the Decade". Oh, and she's also a seven-time WWE Women's Champion. Not bad for a Toronto Fitness Model, right? After nearly seven years in the business, Trish retired from wrestling on September 17, 2006 after winning her seventh (and final) WWE Women's Championship. And in keeping with our Canadian-themed day of content... Trish actually retired in... wait for it... Toronto!!!
